Jubilee oak at Swallowfield Parish Hall

#47 planted in 2013

LocationSwallowfield Parish Hall
Town / ParishSwallowfield
Grid ref.SU 72640 65027
Planting event date6 July 2013
ParticipantsCllr Angus Ross, WBC Executive member for the environment, officiating; Peter Sampson, Swallowfield Parish Council chairman; Cllr Stuart Munro, Swallowfield WBC councillor; Celia Adams, SPC clerk; Angela King, SPC councillor; Helen Lewis, SPC councillor; Gordon Collender, SPC councillor; representatives from the WI and Swallowfield pre-school and local residents.
Notes This planting site is located adjacent to the Parish Hall and Parish Office. The area is very busy with community activity and the newly planted Jubilee Oak will provide a lasting back-drop. It is a very welcome addition as the site previously had a splendid horse chestnut tree commemorating the Riseley and Swallowfield Womens Institute. which, unfortunately, had to be removed. The oak will also add to an amazing garden recently created on the site by the local pre-school and, it is hoped, that people will have a chance to admire what the parents and children have created. It is also a tribute to Mr. Max Bowker who recently resigned from the Parish Council having served since 3rd May 1984.
