NotesThe Marshes represents the commitment by Swallowfield Parish Council to ensure that the environment is one of their key focus areas. The Marshes is a small area of wet woodland that is designated a Wildlife Heritage Site. Adjacent to this is a paddock of roughly 2 hectares. The aim of the project is to enhance and improve both the wildlife value of the site and to encourage rarer species such as the great crested newt. Work on the site was carried out by many local volunteers and funded by grants from several sources. Both sites are now managed and maintained by Swallowfield Parish Council.
