|Notes||This tree is planted within a few yards of the location of an 'oak pollard' noted on
the first OS map of 1871 and on subsequent editions. The tree was a boundary oak and marked a point on Basingstoke
Road on the Parliamentary County Division Boundary. On the 1909 OS map the tree is just labelled 'Oak',
and this is repeated on the 1911 and 1913 maps. However on the 1930 map the tree is not indicated or mentioned.
It is not known whether the 'oak pollard' referred to a mature tree that had been pollarded in its past,
or to the pollard remnants of a tree that had is higher branches removed. There is no sign of a tree there now.|
A Jubilee oak tree from Windsor Great Park was planted nearby in 1897 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. The tree no longer exists, but a photograph of it is on the front cover of 'Our Village of Spencers Wood', a booklet produced by the Local History Group in 2001.
